Match the tutor to the subject
Lower Secondary support may be broad, but upper Secondary subjects often benefit from a specialist. A tutor teaching A-Math, Chemistry or Literature should understand the specific reasoning, terminology and assessment demands of that subject.
Balance current work and old gaps
Focusing only on the next test may leave earlier misconceptions untouched. A sustainable plan reserves time for current school topics while rebuilding foundations that repeatedly cause difficulty.
Marked papers help reveal whether the main issue is knowledge, question interpretation, careless execution, weak time management or incomplete answers.
Help the student become more independent
Secondary tuition should gradually reduce prompting. The student should learn how to review corrections, plan revision, identify weak topics and attempt unfamiliar questions before asking for the answer.
