Terms and Conditions for Tutors
These terms apply when you register as a tutor with Swift Lab Tutors or accept an assignment arranged by us.
1. Professional conduct during lessons
Tutors must behave professionally and ethically. Unsatisfactory conduct may result in the immediate termination of current assignments and the loss of future assignment opportunities. Tutors are expected to:
- maintain professional and ethical behaviour throughout the assignment;
- keep parents informed about the student’s progress;
- arrive punctually and provide the full agreed lesson duration;
- refrain from all physical or verbal abuse towards a student or parent;
- conduct every lesson personally and never send a substitute or representative;
- review and accept the lesson location before taking an assignment, including making the necessary travel arrangements;
- remain committed for the agreed period, generally at least three months unless the assignment is expressly stated to be short-term;
- honour the agreed lesson rate and schedule, obtain the client’s agreement for any change, and give at least 48 hours’ notice where possible; a medical certificate may be requested for a late cancellation caused by illness.
A breach without a valid reason may be recorded permanently and may lead to the tutor being excluded from assignments offered through Swift Lab Tutors.
2. Registration requirements
Tutors must be at least 18 years old and must have passed the GCE O-Level examinations or hold an equivalent academic qualification.
3. Qualifications and document verification
All personal particulars, qualifications and academic records supplied by a tutor must be true and accurate. A client may ask to inspect supporting documents at any time. Swift Lab Tutors may report fabricated qualifications or documents to the Police.
4. Acceptance of these terms
You accept these terms when you register with Swift Lab Tutors or agree to take an assignment arranged by us. An engagement is treated as confirmed once a confirmation note has been sent by WhatsApp, SMS or email, and/or once you conduct the first lesson arranged with the client.
5. Commission and payment of tutor fees
A confirmation note and invoice will be issued when an assignment is successfully confirmed. The one-time commission payable to Swift Lab Tutors is:
- Short-term assignments of two months or less: 25% of one month’s tuition fee, or another amount clearly stated in the assignment details.
- Normal assignments: 50% of one month’s tuition fee.
The commission will normally be collected from the client from the initial tuition fees, with later payments made directly to the tutor. If the client is unable or unwilling to transfer the commission to Swift Lab Tutors, the tutor must collect it on our behalf and transfer it to us as soon as possible.
Any additional tuition service introduced during the first month, including lessons for a sibling or an additional subject, must be disclosed to Swift Lab Tutors and will also be subject to commission. Tutors should account for the stated commission when quoting a rate. Swift Lab Tutors will identify whether an assignment is short-term or normal before confirmation, and any assignment-specific commission arrangement stated at that time will apply.
6. Tutoring commitment
Unless stated otherwise, an assignment is intended to continue on a long-term basis, with three months as a general minimum. If exceptional circumstances prevent you from completing the agreed period, tell Swift Lab Tutors promptly so the matter can be managed and misunderstandings avoided.
After the first completed lesson, the tutor should arrange the second and later lessons directly with the client. Any personal payment or cancellation policy should also be clearly explained to the client after the first lesson.
7. Lesson postponement and last-minute cancellation
After confirming an assignment by SMS, WhatsApp, email or telephone, a tutor is expected to complete at least four weeks of lessons. Irresponsible withdrawal may result in exclusion from future assignments.
A tutor who needs to postpone a lesson should notify the client at least two days in advance. Where sudden illness makes this impossible, the client may ask for a medical certificate. A lesson may be rescheduled only with the client’s agreement.
If a client cancels the first arranged lesson less than two hours before it begins, the client is liable for 50% of that lesson’s fee to compensate the tutor for travel and time. From the second lesson onwards, tutors should explain their own cancellation policy in advance and resolve any related claim directly with the client; this falls outside the agency’s responsibility.
8. Cancellation or change of tutor
A client may ask to replace a tutor at any time. If the client cancels or changes the arrangement during the first four weeks, Swift Lab Tutors will retain 50% of the tuition fees involved and the remaining 50% will be payable to the tutor.
A tutor may lose entitlement to that share where, for example:
- the tutor supplied false or inaccurate profile information;
- the tutor cannot produce documents supporting information in the profile, including academic certificates;
- the lessons are not delivered to a reasonable standard; or
- the tutor cancels the assignment.
Swift Lab Tutors will consider the circumstances and the interests of all parties before deciding the outcome. As the coordinating agency, Swift Lab Tutors’ decision on the case will be final.
9. Tuition rates
The agreed tuition rate must not be changed after confirmation. A tutor may subsequently revise the rate when the student progresses to a higher academic level, provided the change is discussed with the client.
10. Lesson location
Lessons will take place at the address stated in the confirmed assignment.
11. Consent to collect, use and disclose personal data
By registering as a tutor, you authorise Swift Lab Tutors to collect, use and disclose the personal data you provide, in accordance with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012, for the following purposes:
- providing relevant information to a tuition centre or educational institution to arrange an interview, where the assignment is identified as a centre or institution assignment;
- sending you available tuition assignments through WhatsApp, SMS, Telegram, email or other communication channels;
- sending tutor-related marketing information by email or messaging platforms; and
- providing relevant information to the client after a tuition arrangement has been confirmed.
You may withdraw this consent by emailing swiftlabtutors@gmail.com or contacting us on WhatsApp at +65 8062 8316.
12. Commission avoidance, collusion and fraud
Any attempt to evade commission owed to Swift Lab Tutors is treated as fraudulent and unethical. Swift Lab Tutors may make a Police report and commence civil proceedings to recover losses caused by such conduct.
13. Disclaimer
Swift Lab Tutors may revise these Terms and Conditions at any time without prior notice.
