Secondary 1 and Secondary 2
The transition to Secondary school brings new topics and more independent study. Use recent schoolwork to identify whether the student needs stronger foundations, help organising revision or support in a particular subject.
A tutor can reserve time for current topics while revisiting gaps from earlier work. Short, achievable goals make it easier for the student to participate in the plan instead of feeling that tuition is only extra homework.
Secondary 3 to 5: match the actual subject
At upper Secondary level, list Mathematics and Additional Mathematics separately if both are needed. For Science, state Physics, Chemistry, Biology or the exact Science combination. Other requests can include English, Chinese, Humanities or Principles of Accounts.
Subject expertise matters: a tutor’s experience teaching lower Secondary Science does not automatically cover every upper Secondary science course. Confirm the relevant experience and the materials the tutor intends to use.
O-Level, N-Level and the SEC transition
Singapore’s first SEC examination cohort sits the common examination in 2027. The qualification records subjects at different subject levels. A student’s subject level is not the same thing as a posting group.
Include the examination year and each subject’s level in the optional details field. Students preparing for the 2026 O-Level or N-Level examinations should still follow their applicable syllabuses. For IP, international-school or private-candidate requests, share the school topics or examination requirements rather than assuming the same preparation plan applies.
A practical revision plan
Start by separating errors into content gaps, question interpretation, incomplete working and time management. This helps the tutor choose between reteaching a concept, practising a skill and attempting timed work.
Ask the student to attempt a corrected question again without help. Review whether they can explain their reasoning and complete similar work independently; a single test result is only one part of the picture.
